Hope Hummingbird is a ceramic artist and educator based in Austin, Texas.
Her fine art practice centers on porcelain portraiture, often depicting fellow local artists and feminist icons throughout history. Through this work, she engages with contemporary social movements, aiming to inspire hope, connection, and community.
In addition to her studio practice, Hope designs and fabricates custom tile for residential and commercial spaces. Her handmade, hand-painted tiles are known for their delicate craftsmanship and serene sense of place.
Her mosaics and street art can be found throughout Austin, including her recognizable Gather the People porcelain plaques, which have become a beloved presence in public spaces and local exhibitions.
Hope’s work has been exhibited in galleries in Austin, Philadelphia, and across the United States. Her September 2024 solo exhibition, Reflection, at Almost Real Things highlighted and celebrated Austin’s community of local artists and musicians.
A dedicated educator, Hope is originally from the East Coast where she taught art, ceramics, and woodshop. She now teaches wheel throwing, handbuilding, and coil-building ceramics to adults, and also develops custom workshop experiences for groups of all sizes across artistic disciplines.
She holds a BFA in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art at Temple University and pursued graduate studies in painting at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She adopted the name Hope Hummingbird while working as a public school teacher by day and a street artist by night.
